International Week of the Market Garden and the Sea:

Declared as a regional event of tourist interest, it is a representation of folk, customs, culture, gastronomy and an example of peaceful and happy cohabiting.

It is held annually during the second fortnight in August, and becomes the best window to learn about folk in all its aspects and origins.

It is based on the commemoration of the most recent historical past of Los Alcázares, as a homage to our first tourists, the inhabitants of the Huerta (Market Garden) de Murcia, who in August used to go to Los Alcázares in their carts, and used to set up with blankets and screens their places of rest to spend a few days near the sea.

It has been celebrated since summer 1972, and it is the widest demonstration of the cultural traditions of the Region of Murcia. Many other groups from different continents take part every year in this Festival to show our peoples their customs, legends, myths, dances, arts and crafts, foods and their way of life as a means of communication and knowledge and - especially - of friendship between the communities..

In the Park of the Peñas Huertanas many groups meet and set up their huts, "barracas", imitating the typical huts of the Market Garden in Murcia, where they serve all the typical dishes of the area. There is also a sort of museum where the crafts, objects and agricultural tools of the time are exhibited.
